Chemical name: Hydroxyl-containing acrylic copolymer
Cryminal 270 is an alkali-swellable anionic thickener, a cross-linked polymer emulsion thickener derived from the copolymerization of ethyl acrylate and methacrylic acid. It contains acidic groups, resulting in very low viscosity in acidic media. When diluted with water and neutralized with alkali, the emulsion particles rapidly swell, resulting in a very high viscosity and excellent leveling after thickening. Cryminal 270 effectively improves low-shear (Brookfield) viscosity, thinning the coating under high shear. Coatings thickened with Cryminal 270 alone can achieve very high viscosities and even develop a gel structure, which becomes apparent after the shear force is removed. Due to its high resistance to microbial and enzymatic attack, Cryminal 270 ensures long-term viscosity stability in coatings thickened with it. Compared to high-molecular-weight cellulosic thickeners, Cryminal 270 also reduces roller-applied spatter.
