Chemical name: Hydroxyl-containing acrylic copolymer
Cryminal 60D is an alkali-swellable anionic thickener. It is a cross-linked polymer emulsion thickener formed by the copolymerization of ethyl acrylate and methacrylic acid. It contains acidic groups and exhibits very low viscosity in acidic media. When diluted with water and neutralized with alkali, the emulsion particles rapidly swell, resulting in a very high viscosity system with good leveling properties after thickening.
Cryminal 60D effectively improves low-shear (Brookfield) viscosity, thinning the coating under high shear. Coatings thickened with Cryminal 60D alone can achieve very high viscosities and even develop a gel structure, which becomes apparent after the shear force is removed.
Due to its high resistance to microbial and enzymatic attack, Cryminal 60D provides long-term viscosity stability in coatings thickened with it. Compared to high-molecular-weight cellulosic thickeners, Cryminal 60D also reduces roller-applied spatter.
